CM Sukhu Launches Prepaid Taxi Service from ISBT Tutikandi in Shimla.

Shimla:

In a move aimed at improving passenger convenience, transparency and safety, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday launched a prepaid taxi service for the state from ISBT Tutikandi.

Under the new system, passengers will be required to book taxis through a dedicated prepaid taxi counter set up at the bus terminal. After paying the fare in advance at the counter, the passenger will receive a payment slip which must be shown to the taxi driver before the journey begins. The driver will then transport the passenger to the specified destination.

Once the trip is completed and the driver returns to the station, the payment slip will be submitted at the counter to receive the fare amount for the journey.

Service to Cover 26 Locations

The prepaid taxi service will operate to 26 locations within Shimla city, along with two additional destinations outside the city—Chandigarh International Airport and Chandigarh.

A total of 115 taxis will be deployed under the service, which will be operated by the local taxi union.

Officials said the initiative has been introduced to streamline the taxi booking process at the busy bus terminal, particularly for tourists and passengers arriving from other parts of the state.

Ensuring Transparency and Passenger Safety

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Sukhu said the prepaid taxi facility would eliminate fare-related disputes between passengers and drivers.

“The initiative will ensure transparency as the fare rates have already been notified by the Transport Department. It will also enhance passenger safety and benefit both tourists and local residents,” he said.

By introducing a standardized fare system, the government aims to provide a more reliable and hassle-free travel option for people visiting or commuting within Shimla.

Several public representatives and senior officials attended the launch event, including Harish Janartha, Surender Chauhan and Uma Kaushal.

Senior administrative and police officials also present on the occasion included Ashok Tiwari, Anupam Kashyap and Gaurav Singh, along with other dignitaries.

The prepaid taxi service is expected to significantly improve transportation management at ISBT Tutikandi, one of Shimla’s busiest transit points, while ensuring fair pricing and better travel experience for passengers.
