India Hosts Global Food Regulators Summit 2024, Pledges Enhanced Food Safety Systems.

The two-day Global Food Regulators Summit 2024, organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, concluded today with a commitment to bolster food safety systems worldwide. Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, emphasized the dual responsibility of ensuring both food safety and security, urging collaboration to transform India’s diverse food systems into significant opportunities.
The summit gathered over 70 international delegates, including food regulators and experts from research institutes, to share insights on regulatory challenges and advancements in food safety. Paswan lauded the FSSAI for the event, which featured key discussions on residue monitoring, food-testing innovations, and strategies to combat hidden hunger through food fortification.
In a special address, Dr. V K Paul from NITI Aayog praised India’s Eat Right India movement, calling for public participation in promoting healthier food choices. Concurrently, Smt Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in shaping global food safety standards.
The summit also marked the launch of several initiatives, including the Food Import Rejection Alerts (FIRA) portal and the State Food Safety Index (SFSI) 2024, designed to enhance food safety governance.
G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, CEO of FSSAI, reflected on the valuable contributions made during the summit, reinforcing India’s commitment to leading global food safety initiatives.
