Uttar Pradesh:
In a powerful address at the convocation ceremony of IIMT University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on January 11, 2025, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged the youth to harness their potential and align their aspirations with India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. Speaking to a vibrant gathering of students, he highlighted the critical role that young minds will play in realizing the national dream of transforming India into a global leader.
Rajnath Singh emphasized that the youth of the country are the backbone of its future and described them as the “heroes of the country’s future.” He stated that the strength of a nation lies in the knowledge, skills, and determination of its youth. “The dreams, commitment, and thinking of the youth will give India a new identity in the world,” he added, stressing that optimism is one of the greatest strengths of young people. He noted that this optimism enables them to find opportunities even in the face of adversity.
He pointed to India’s growing influence on the global stage under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remarking, “Today, when India speaks, the whole world listens.” He reflected on India’s strides towards self-reliance, particularly in defence manufacturing, noting that India is now producing state-of-the-art defence equipment domestically and even exporting it to other nations. Furthermore, he lauded India’s success as the third-largest startup hub in the world, home to over 100 unicorns, and highlighted the nation’s leadership in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Rajnath Singh also underscored the importance of youth seizing the abundant opportunities available in India today, a result of the government’s pro-development initiatives. He shared three essential principles for overcoming challenges in life: faith in God, confidence in one’s abilities, and hope for the best results. “If you possess an idea and skill-set and are ready to work hard, you will have no shortage of opportunities or resources,” he told the students.
The Defence Minister encouraged the youth to stay grounded in India’s rich history, culture, and values, which can offer valuable lessons during difficult times. “When you move beyond individual achievements and think about social betterment, you accomplish something that ensures you are remembered for a lifetime,” he said.
Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on the occasion of his birth anniversary, which falls on January 12 and is celebrated as National Youth Day. He urged the students to draw inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and vision, recognizing him as India’s first “Global Youth” and an enduring symbol of youth empowerment.
Concluding his address, Defence Minister reaffirmed his belief in the potential of India’s youth, urging them to contribute to the nation’s transformation through innovation, dynamism, and hard work.
