Prime Minister’s Tribal Advanced Village Campaign to Benefit Nine Villages in Lahaul-Spiti.
Shimla:
In a significant move aimed at enhancing the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, nine villages in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh will be included in the Prime Minister’s Tribal Advanced Village Campaign.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar chaired a preparatory meeting in Kelong, the district’s headquarters, where he announced that the campaign will officially launch on October 2, coinciding with a national event in Jharkhand. The initiative seeks to encompass 63,000 tribal-majority villages across 549 districts and 2,740 development blocks in India from 2024 to 2029.
The selected villages from Lahaul-Spiti are Shakoli, Udaipur, Tindi, Trilokinath, and Kelong from the Lahaul region, along with Kaza Khas, Kaza Soma, Narango, and Tabo from the Spiti region.
The campaign’s primary goal is to improve access to essential services such as health, education, roads, electricity, and water, while addressing gaps in livelihood resources and social infrastructure. Eligible families will benefit from various schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Jal Jeevan Mission for tap water access, and Ayushman Bharat health cards.
The Deputy Commissioner directed district officials to ensure all arrangements for the launch event at Kelong, while Manoj Thakur, Project Officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Department, provided insights on the campaign’s key aspects.
Additionally, the campaign will feature awareness programs for villagers, including exhibitions on welfare schemes, speech contests, drawing competitions, and cultural activities organized by women’s and youth groups. Transport arrangements for beneficiaries will also be facilitated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation.
