The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, officially inaugurated the inaugural Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav at Rashtrapati Nilayam on Saturday. This eight-day festival, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of the North-East Region and the Ministry of Culture, aims to showcase the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the North-Eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

During her address at the event, President Murmu emphasized the collective responsibility to preserve and promote the nation’s cultural heritage. She highlighted the importance of the North-Eastern states’ cultural diversity, including their folk dances, music, art, and traditional attire, as a vital part of India’s heritage. The festival aims to familiarize citizens with the traditions and communities of the region.

The President also noted that the Mahotsav serves as a platform for cultural exchange and expressed her hope that it would strengthen the connection between the North-East and southern India. She expressed confidence that this celebration would empower artisans, artists, and communities by bringing their traditions and talents to the forefront.

The inaugural event was attended by the Governor of Telangana, the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, as well as the Governors of all eight North-Eastern states and the Minister of State for Development of North-Eastern Region.

The Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav will be open to the public from September 29 to October 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the rich cultural tapestry of Northeast India.
