District Congress Committee Mandi Remembers Dr. Y.S. Parmar on Birth Anniversary, Pays Rich Tribute to the Architect of Himachal Pradesh.

The District Congress Committee (DCC) Mandi on Tuesday organized a commemorative meeting at Gandhi Bhawan, Mandi, under the chairpersonship of District Congress President Champa Thakur to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister and widely regarded as the architect of modern Himachal Pradesh.
The programme commenced with Congress leaders and party workers paying floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Parmar, remembering his invaluable contribution to the formation and development of Himachal Pradesh. The gathering observed the occasion with reverence, acknowledging his lifelong commitment to public service and his visionary leadership that laid the foundation for the state’s progress.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders recalled that Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was born on August 4, 1906, in Chanalag village of the Pachhad region in present-day Sirmaur district. They highlighted his outstanding academic achievements, noting that he graduated from Christian College, Lahore, in 1926, completed his Master’s degree from Lucknow University in 1928, and earned a Ph.D. in 1944.
The speakers also shed light on Dr. Parmar’s distinguished career in the judiciary. He served as a First-Class Judge between 1930 and 1937 but chose to leave public office in 1941, resigning from the prestigious post to dedicate himself entirely to serving the people and working for the unification and welfare of the hill regions.
Recalling his political journey, the Congress leaders said Dr. Parmar played a pivotal role in leading the Satyagraha movement in the erstwhile Suket princely state. His efforts and leadership significantly contributed to the movement that eventually envisioned and facilitated the formation of Himachal Pradesh in 1948.
The meeting further highlighted that Dr. Parmar became the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh in 1952. After serving as a Member of Parliament following his election in 1957, he returned to state politics and assumed office as Chief Minister once again in 1963. Known for his simplicity, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public welfare, Dr. Parmar remained at the helm of the state for nearly 17 years.
The speakers emphasized that under Dr. Parmar’s visionary leadership, the reorganization of the hill regions culminated in the creation of a larger Himachal Pradesh on November 1, 1966. His persistent efforts also played a decisive role in securing full-fledged statehood for Himachal Pradesh in 1971, a milestone that transformed the state’s administrative and developmental trajectory.
Describing Dr. Parmar as the true architect of Himachal Pradesh, the Congress leaders said his vision, foresight, and dedication continue to inspire generations. They called upon party workers and the youth to uphold his ideals of honesty, simplicity, democratic values, and selfless public service.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to carrying forward Dr. Parmar’s legacy of inclusive development and public welfare.
Among those present on the occasion were Anil Sen, Tek Raj Thakur, Hem Singh Thakur, Rajender Mohan, Prakash Kashyap, Pradeep Sharma, Bhup Singh, Maya Devi, Riya, Dharmi Devi, Noop Chand, Bhintara Devi, Rekha Kumari, Jeevana Devi, Rajni Devi, Man Singh, Dalip Thakur, Roshan Lal, Hukam Chand, Dhari Ram, Palsara, and several other Congress leaders and workers.
