The newly constructed Mandi bypass, a key segment of the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane road project in Mandi district, was opened for traffic trials today. The event, attended by Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), marks a significant advancement in regional transportation infrastructure.

Spanning nearly 8 kilometers and built at a cost of approximately Rs. 725 crores, the bypass aims to improve strategic connectivity and boost tourism in the area. During the trial run, Deputy Commissioner Devgan noted that the fully operational bypass is expected to significantly reduce heavy vehicle traffic within Mandi city, alleviating longstanding traffic congestion for residents and travelers alike.

The bypass features three major bridges, seven minor bridges, and four tunnels, all designed to facilitate smoother traffic flow and enhance road safety. Once operational, it will streamline travel routes to popular destinations such as Kullu, Manali, and Leh, further solidifying Mandi’s role as a vital transit hub in Himachal Pradesh.

Devgan emphasized that the project not only aims to ease congestion but also to significantly benefit the tourism sector in Kullu-Manali and Lahaul-Spiti, attracting visitors year-round. A formal inauguration is expected once ongoing road work from Ner Chowk to Pandoh is completed, further integrating the bypass into the regional transport network.

NHAI Project Director Varun Chari and other officials reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing roadway infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh. As the Mandi bypass prepares for full operational status, local residents and business owners express optimism about its potential to transform travel experiences and support local economies.
