Defense Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) 2024, emphasizing India’s vision of fostering partnerships based on sustainable development, economic growth, and mutual security in the region. Speaking in New Delhi, Singh reiterated India’s commitment to a rule-based international order and peaceful dispute resolution.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), Singh stated that India is now recognized as a credible security partner and first responder in the Indo-Pacific. He underscored the importance of ASEAN in promoting regional stability and cooperation.

Singh discussed the strategic significance of the Indo-Pacific as a dynamic geopolitical zone, acknowledging the challenges posed by shifting power dynamics and resource competition. He expressed concern over the “tragedy of the commons,” urging the international community to unite for sustainable management of shared global resources.

Emphasizing the need for collective action, he stated, “The emergence of the Indo-Pacific reflects a balancing of global power, and India’s maritime policy seeks collective prosperity.” The Defense Minister also released the book ‘Maritime India: Temporal and Spatial Continuum’ during the event.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and other military leaders joined the dialogue, which aims to advance the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. The three-day conference, co-organized with the National Maritime Foundation, focuses on marine resources and maritime security, reinforcing India’s strategic role in the Indo-Pacific region.
