Villagers demand restoration of Bus Stop at Skodi Bridge in Mandi amid new arrangements.

Shimla:
Rajesh Kapoor, Chairman of Panna Lal Raksha Memorial Charitable Trust Mandi stated that on October 14, local newspapers reported that the Mandi administration has designated new bus stops for passenger buses coming from Kotli and Riwalsar. This decision comes despite previous protests from villagers who had sought a meeting with the administration to address their concerns.
“The villagers are particularly upset about the lack of restoration of the long-standing bus stop at Skodi Bridge, which has been in place for years. There is also a small shelter at the bridge for passengers, which is now reportedly occupied illegally, yet the administration appears to be unaware of the situation” he remarked.
The recent changes implemented on October 14 have been met with disapproval from the Panna Lal Raksha Charitable Trust Executive Committee, which unanimously rejected the new arrangements due to the inconveniences they pose.
Rajesh Kapoor urged the administration to reconsider and restore the Skodi Bridge stop, as buses arriving from Sadiyana, Veer Sadoh, Tarno, and Badi Gumaunu currently drop passengers at the district hospital, requiring them to travel on foot or by three-wheeler to reach their destinations.
“The newly designated stop near the cinema hall has also been criticised by the area residents for its impracticality, as it is located on a steep road with heavy congestion from a nearby private hospital, limiting the area to accommodate only one bus at a time. In contrast, the Skodi Bridge offers ample space for organized bus stops without traffic issues”,said Kapoor.
“The Trust Executive Committee believes the administration should prioritize the needs of the rural population who rely on these bus services”,he added.
He warn that if their concerns are not addressed, villagers may resort to protests, including hunger strikes, holding the district administration responsible for any escalation.
