Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that Post Graduate courses will soon be introduced at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College (RKGMC), Hamirpur. The State Government has approved the establishment of six associate professor and 10 assistant professor positions in critical departments including General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, and Radiology.

Addressing the increasing patient load at RKGMC, the Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of these courses to enhance patient care and overall healthcare services. He noted that essentiality-cum-feasibility certificates for introducing PG courses in Ophthalmology, Dermatology, and Physiology have already been issued.

Furthermore, the government has sanctioned the creation of 150 nursing positions at RKGMC to improve patient care and working conditions for nursing staff. The CM highlighted the importance of optimal patient-to-nurse ratios, targeting a 1:1 ratio in ICUs, 1:2 in labor rooms, and 1:4 in antenatal wards.

Sukhu also mentioned ongoing efforts to strengthen medical colleges across the state, including the approval of 1,182 new posts at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda. Similar initiatives are being pursued at other medical colleges in Nahan, Chamba, and Mandi.

To modernize the healthcare sector, the government is procuring world-class medical equipment, aiming to provide high-quality services to residents and reduce the need for treatment outside the state.
