Foreign Language Should Not Hinder Learning in Sciences, Says Vice President at IIT Jodhpur Convocation.
Jodhpur:
The Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized that foreign languages should not be an insurmountable barrier to studying sciences, medicine, and technology. Speaking as the Chief Guest at the 10th Convocation of IIT Jodhpur, he encouraged students to embrace a harmonious blend of knowledge and technology, highlighting the flexibility offered by the National Education Policy (NEP) that allows for non-traditional course combinations.
He praised IIT Jodhpur as a pioneer in offering engineering courses in the mother tongue, stating that many successful countries, like Japan and Germany, teach engineering in their native languages. He asserted that India must empower future problem solvers to transcend strict disciplinary boundaries.
Addressing the country’s economic ambitions, he called for collective efforts to escape the middle-income trap and achieve developed nation status by 2047, emphasizing the need for significant per capita income growth and meaningful employment creation.
The Vice-President also celebrated India’s leadership in the digital economy, noting the average of 466 million daily digital transactions facilitated by UPI. He acknowledged India’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, now the third-largest globally, and encouraged IITs to specialize in distinct areas for global recognition.
Touching on India’s advancements in the space and blue economies, he expressed aspirations for significant growth in these sectors by 2030. He urged the youth to reject pessimism and embrace the nation’s strengths, as global partners seek to anchor their supply chains in India.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and other notable figures from IIT Jodhpur.
