Vallabh Government College Mandi Hosts Annual Athletic Meet 2024 with Grand Inauguration.

The Annual Athletic Meet of Vallabh Government College was inaugurated today by Professor Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Vice Chancellor of Sardar Patel University, who hoisted the flag to officially kick off the event at Paddal ground in Mandi district.
In his address to the athletes, Professor Awasthi underscored the importance of sports in promoting holistic development, emphasizing the vital role of outdoor games in shaping character and building resilience. He also praised Vallabh Government College for organizing the event in a grand manner, providing students with a platform to showcase their talents.
“The Athletic Meet is not only about competition but also about fostering qualities like determination, patience, and humility. It’s an opportunity to create unforgettable memories for both participants and spectators alike,” said Professor Awasthi. He also reaffirmed Sardar Patel University’s commitment to quality education and support for student development.
During the inauguration, Professor Surina Sharma, Principal of Vallabh Government College, presented mementos to Professor Awasthi and Engineer Sunil Verma, Controller of Examinations at Sardar Patel University, as a gesture of appreciation. She highlighted the significance of the Athletic Meet in uniting the college community and encouraging healthy competition among students.
Dr. Ravinder Kumar, the coordinator of the event, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event featured a grand march past led by the NCC contingents under the command of Flying Officer Dr. Chaman. The parade included cadets from both the Air and Army Wings, with Cadet Warrant Officer Ankush Sharma and Senior Under Officer Bharat Bhushan leading their respective contingents. Hundreds of students from various departments participated, adding to the enthusiasm of the opening ceremony.
In the early events of the meet, top performances were recorded in multiple track and field competitions. In the men’s 100-meter race, Dikshit Parashar claimed first place with a time of 12.49 seconds, followed by Nitish Kumar and Uday Chauhan in second and third positions, respectively. In the men’s 400-meter race, Boleesh Kumar took the gold, with Chetan Kumar Atal and Lal Singh securing silver and bronze.
For the women, Kanta Thakur won the 100-meter race, while in the field events, Leelamani clinched first in the men’s javelin throw, and Hemlata emerged victorious in the women’s long jump.
As of the latest update, the competitions are still ongoing, with final rounds scheduled for tomorrow. The upcoming events will include the 200-meter race, high jump, and discus throw, with special activities like tug-of-war and musical chairs for the college staff.
Dr. Sunil Singh, Head of the Department of Physical Education, shared that the meet is being held at the historic Paddal Ground in Mandi and has generated great excitement among students. The 1500-meter race is also set to take place on November 19.
The event has attracted a large gathering of dignitaries, including Engineer Sunil Verma, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, and several faculty members from the college. The Athletic Meet is being coordinated by Dr. Hemraj Rana and Dr. Madhavi Joshi.
