Shimla:
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, organized a one-day seminar to commemorate Mahaparinirvana Day, honoring the life and legacy of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The seminar focused on the theme “The Contribution of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Nation-Building and Journalism.”
Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, delivered the keynote address, highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s monumental contributions to Indian society. Dr. Chaman emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar’s efforts in social, economic, political, and journalistic reforms were pivotal in shaping a strong, just, and egalitarian nation. “His ideology continues to inspire Indian democracy, journalism, and society today,” Dr. Chaman remarked.
Dr. Ambedkar, known as the architect of the Indian Constitution, was instrumental in ensuring equality, liberty, and justice for all citizens, laying the foundation for democracy and secularism in India. Dr. Chaman also discussed Dr. Ambedkar’s significant role in the field of journalism, particularly his contributions as the founder and editor of periodicals such as Mooknayak, Janata, Bahishkrit Bharat, Samata, and Prabuddha Bharat, which were pivotal in advancing Dalit rights.
The seminar further explored Dr. Ambedkar’s economic reforms, including the establishment of the Reserve Bank of India, and his advocacy for labor rights. Dr. Chaman emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar’s belief in education as a means for social and economic progress was integral to nation-building. “Be educated, be organized, and fight for your rights,” Dr. Ambedkar famously stated, a sentiment that continues to resonate.
The event also reflected on Dr. Ambedkar’s adoption of Buddhism in 1956, a move that not only transformed his personal life but also revived Buddhism in India. His advocacy for women’s rights, including the drafting of the Hindu Code Bill, was also a key topic of discussion.
The seminar concluded with research paper presentations by Payal Verma, Vandana Thakur, and Ritika from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, followed by a documentary screening on Dr. Ambedkar’s life. The students and NCC cadets observed a moment of silence to honor his contributions.
Dr. Chaman urged the attendees to draw inspiration from Dr. Ambedkar’s life of resilience and dedication to the nation, urging them to continue his fight for justice and equality.
