Bilaspur:

A grand event held at Luhnu Ground in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday December 11 marked the completion of two successful years of the current state government in Himachal Pradesh. The celebration highlighted the administration’s accomplishments, vision for the future, and commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

Chief Minister’s Vision for a Self-Reliant State.

The event, attended by prominent Congress leaders and public representatives, was graced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring equitable development and safeguarding the state’s resources. The Chief Minister reflected on his journey, expressing that the state government, formed with the support of Congress leadership and the people of Himachal Pradesh, would continue working toward self-reliance by 2027. “Our true celebration will be in 2027 when Himachal Pradesh becomes a self-reliant state,” Sukhu said.

Honoring Freedom Fighters.

The ceremony also honored freedom fighters Bhag Singh, Sahaj Ram, and Premi Devi, the wife of Narottam Shastri, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation’s independence. The Chief Minister unveiled Vikas Sankalan, a comprehensive publication highlighting the achievements and initiatives of the government over the past two years.

Government’s Achievements in Key Areas.

Chief Minister Sukhu outlined several key government initiatives, including the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for over 1.36 lakh employees, despite central government pressure. In the aftermath of last year’s devastating monsoon disaster, the state government successfully evacuated 75,000 tourists and provided a relief package of Rs. 4,500 crore for affected families. The government also revised the disaster relief manual, significantly increasing compensation from Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh per affected family.

Economic Growth and Rural Development.

The Chief Minister highlighted measures aimed at boosting the rural economy, such as raising the price of milk and daily wages under the MNREGA scheme. The state also committed to purchasing 4,000 quintals of maize produced through natural farming, with plans to buy wheat at Rs. 40 per kilogram next year. Additionally, the government plans to prioritize strengthening the rural economy in its upcoming budget.

Criticism of Previous BJP Government.

Sukhu criticized the previous BJP-led government, accusing it of corruption and inefficiency during its five-year tenure. He pointed to incidents such as police recruitment exam leaks, a PPE kit scam during the pandemic, and the questionable sale of industrial land at Rs. 1 per square meter. He also attacked BJP leaders for their alleged attempts to destabilize the current government, stating that these efforts had failed and only strengthened Congress’s position.

Political Commentry by Rajeev Shukla.

Rajeev Shukla, MP and General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, took aim at the BJP for its alleged disregard for the people’s mandate. He accused the BJP of spreading misinformation and failing to protect Hindus in Bangladesh, despite its pro-Hindu stance. Shukla also praised Congress’s achievements in social welfare, including the MNREGA, Right to Information Act, and loan waivers for farmers. He reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to completing its full term in Himachal Pradesh.

Strong Congress Support Despite BJP Opposition.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri reiterated the strength and stability of the Congress government, asserting that attempts by the BJP to destabilize the administration had been futile. He expressed confidence that the BJP would not regain power in Himachal Pradesh. He also responded to criticisms from the opposition, challenging them to provide evidence of any unpaid salaries or pensions under the Congress-led government.

Praising Leadership and Future Plans.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh lauded the government’s progress and expressed gratitude to Congress leaders for their continuous support. She highlighted the relief efforts during the disaster and praised the contributions of the Gandhi family and former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in shaping the state’s development.

Looking Ahead: Investments and Infrastructure.

The state government is also focused on large-scale infrastructure projects, including a Rs. 2,000 crore ropeway in Shimla, expected to be the largest in the country, and the establishment of a bulk drug park. Minister Rajesh Dharmani welcomed the government’s emphasis on tourism and infrastructure development in Bilaspur, noting the allocation of Rs. 1,300 crore for the construction of a Bilaspur railway line.

Conclusion: A Stronger, Self-Reliant Himachal.

The event concluded with the release of a documentary showcasing the achievements of the state government. With a focus on improving infrastructure, economic growth, and public welfare, the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Himachal Pradesh becomes a self-reliant state by 2027, overcoming political challenges and prioritizing the needs of its people.

Prominent leaders present at the event included Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Health Minister Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, and Education Minister Rohit Thakur, among others.
