 Inter-College Wushu Sports Competition kick starts at Vallabh Government College Mandi.

The much-awaited Inter-College Wushu Sports Competition organized by Himachal Pradesh University commenced today at Vallabh Government College, Mandi. Professor Surina Sharma, Principal of Vallabh Government College, inaugurated the event and emphasized the holistic development that sports bring to an individual. She also highlighted the vast employment opportunities available through sports.

On this occasion, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Sports Coordinator, and Dr. Sunil Sen, Event Secretary, presented mementos to the chief guest. Dr. Kumar delivered a welcoming speech to the players, officials, and attendees from across the state, while Dr. Sen shared details about the competition, which is being held from December 17 to December 19, 2024. He mentioned that 18 institutions are participating in the Wushu competition.

Media coordinator Dr. Chaman stated that in the competition’s early rounds, several thrilling matches were held. In the men’s 65 kg weight category, Mohammad Shami from Vallabh Government College defeated Akshat Sharma from the Evening Study Center, Shimla. In the men’s 52 kg category, Manoj Thakur from Government College, Banjar, triumphed over Syog Sharma from Government College, Ghumarwin.

The competition has drawn a strong participation of 125 athletes, with 10 women’s teams and 17 men’s teams representing institutions like Government Colleges from Bhornaj, Solan, Nurpur, Sanjoli, Kullu, Palampur, and others. The event also witnessed an impressive demonstration of Taolu Wushu Martial Arts by players from Excellence Center, Kansa Chowk.

Sports officials present included Dr. Virender (University Observer), P. N. Azad (Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Wushu Association), and many others. Notable professors and senior faculty members also attended the event, showing support for the athletes and the growing importance of sports in academic life.

This competition is expected to provide a platform for students to showcase their Wushu skills and promote sportsmanship across the region.
