Shimla:

In a united stance against the Government Servants Recruitment and Service Conditions Amendment Bill 2024, the HGCTA Unit VGC Mandi has joined a statewide protest, voicing strong opposition to the proposed legislation, which they claim could have severe repercussions for government employees.

The bill, according to the HGCTA, threatens to undermine crucial employee rights, including benefits like Leave Encashment and Dearness Allowance (DA). The organization fears the government’s next step could involve tampering with these hard-earned privileges, leading to widespread discontent.

As part of their protest, the HGCTA Unit Vallabh Government College Mandi held an emergency meeting, wearing black ribbons as a symbolic gesture of dissent. A gate meeting was also organized to rally against the bill. The union also raised concerns that the legislation could erode judicial rulings in favor of government employees, further diminishing their rights.

Dr. Raj Kumar Thakur, Vice President of the HGCTA Mandi unit, and Dr. Ritesh Verma, Secretary of the unit, have emphasized the need for the government to reconsider and withdraw the bill, referring to it as “draconian” and warning of strong resistance to any changes to employee benefits.

The HGCTA stands firm in its commitment to fight for the rights and dignity of government employees and will continue to oppose any attempts to weaken their protections.
