CPI to Celebrate Centenary with State-Level Event in Mandi.

The preparations for the state-level centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of India (CPI) are in full swing, with the event scheduled to take place on December 25-26, 2024, in Mandi.

CPI Secretary Advocate Desraj  stated that the centenary celebrations will kick off with a seminar on the evening of December 25, dedicated to the renowned CPI leader and advocate, Comrade Bhagat Ram.

“The seminar will feature prominent speakers, including renowned thinker Professor Apurvanand (Delhi University), retired Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma (Himachal Pradesh High Court), Dr. Varayam Singh (former head of the Department of Foreign Languages, JNU), and Shailender Kumar, National Secretary of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). Other notable participants include veteran leaders Harish Guleria, environmentalist Ratn Chand, Padma Shri awardee Nekram, along with CPI, CPI(M), and other progressive intellectuals and activists” he added.

“Following the seminar, there will be poetry readings and cultural performances. On December 26, the main event will begin at 10 AM with cultural presentations dedicated to the late cultural worker, Lavan Thakur, at the Seri stage. This will be followed by a flag hoisting ceremony at Vipasha Sadan, marking the commencement of the centenary conference. The chief guests include CPI National Secretary and women’s leader Annie Raja, and Shailender Kumar, Secretary of IPTA” he said.

“The event will also feature tributes to the party’s deceased leaders, who will be honored through their families, and senior, dedicated leftist workers will also be recognized for their contributions. Various committees comprising CPI, CPI(M), and allied organizations have been formed to ensure the success of the event” he added.

Party leaders expressed pride in hosting this historic event in the cultural capital of Himachal Pradesh and called on all concerned citizens to attend and support the celebration.

They emphasized that the formation of the CPI brought new energy, direction, and purpose to India’s freedom struggle, playing a significant role in the creation of the Indian Constitution and the nation’s people-oriented development. Party leaders also voiced concern over the rise of fascist forces and their attacks, which threaten the unity and integrity of the country. They stressed the need for progressive forces to unite and defend India and its Constitution in these challenging times.
