Himachal Pradesh to Boost Power Supply with 2 Megawatt Solar Plant in Kaza: CM Sukhu.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the installation of a 2 Megawatt solar power plant in the tribal region of Kaza in Lahaul and Spiti district recently, aimed at improving and ensuring a stable power supply. The Chief Minister praised the dedicated efforts of the officers and employees of the Electricity Board, whose hard work led to the completion of this project. He further revealed that the plant would become fully operational in a few months, with the addition of a 1 MWh battery storage system.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to renewable energy, CM Sukhu shared that the government was focusing on solar power to help transform Himachal Pradesh into a ‘Green State.’ As part of this initiative, the government is also setting up EV charging stations in areas with growing demand. Additionally, the state has approved the installation of 18 Megawatt ground-mounted and rooftop solar plants on vacant land near Electricity Board offices.
The government is also pushing forward its plan to install rooftop solar systems in 50,000 houses by 2026-27, with 4,444 applications already received for the scheme.S
CM Sukhu emphasized the state’s efforts to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, including rationalizing electricity subsidies and the state’s workforce. The Chief Minister also revealed that agreements signed by the Electricity Board for power projects were being reviewed, and loans taken at high-interest rates would be reassessed. This move is expected to help the Board reduce its debt burden by securing loans at lower interest rates, contributing to the financial stability of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited.
Sukhu concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting employees and ensuring their well-being by consistently providing them with financial benefits.
