BJP Slams Congress Budget for Himachal, Calls It Directionless and Burdening the State with Debt.

Shimla:

Rakesh Jamwal, the Chief Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh, has strongly criticized the Congress government’s budget for 2025-26, calling it directionless and a collection of false promises. Jamwal claimed that the budget is a betrayal of the people of Himachal Pradesh, lacking both solid development plans and any clear economic reforms. He emphasized that the state, already struggling with a financial crisis, has not been provided with a clear strategy for recovery in the budget.

Jamwal pointed out that the debt burden on the state has been steadily increasing under the Congress government, with the state’s debt rising from Rs. 76,185 crore in 2023 to over Rs. 1 lakh crore now. He criticized the government for relying solely on debt without providing a clear roadmap for repayment, questioning the government’s financial management.

He also accused the Congress of failing to fulfill its promises made during the election campaign, including the ten guarantees offered to the public. Promises such as Rs. 1500 monthly allowances for women, unemployment benefits, five lakh jobs, and the restoration of the old pension scheme have not been implemented.

The BJP leader further noted that the Congress government had not made any effort to reduce inflation but instead increased taxes on petrol, diesel, and alcohol, negatively impacting the common man. Additionally, he criticized the imposition of extra taxes on small businesses and traders, which, he said, would harm the state’s economy.

Jamwal also accused the Congress government of attempting to take credit for financial aid received from the central government under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission. He also raised concerns about the rise of illegal mining and corruption in the state.

The BJP has called for a clear plan from the Congress government to address the state’s financial crisis and fulfill its election promises.
