Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on fast unto death in Ladakh to demand inclusion of sixth schedule of Constitution of India and statehood to Ladakh from the central government.

Delhi:
Environmental activist, Engineer, Innovator and Education reformist, Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on fast unto death in Ladakh from March 6 to demand inclusion of sixth schedule of Constitution of India and statehood to Union Territory Ladakh from the central government.
He alleged that BJP, which came in to power in the center to eradicate corruption and kept the promises owed to the public, failed to deliver its promises to the public.
Sonam Wangchuk said that “four years ago during 6th LAHDC Leh election 2020, the BJP had released its manifesto on October 13, 2020, in which the BJP had promised inclusion of sixth Schedule of Constitution of India in UT Ladakh to safeguard the interests of Ladakh residents. But unfortunately so far the residents of Ladakh are waiting for it desperately. The BJP has not fulfilled its promise owed to the public. ”
Wangchuk alleged that the party that had come to power in the center to provide corruption free governance and safeguard the interests of common people in India failed to deliver its promises owed to the public. Corruption is in rise in the country as well as in Ladakh.
“When I enquired about the the delay in inclusion of sixth schedule in UT Ladakh by the central government, I came to know that the industrialists those want to exploit the resources of Ladakh, have influenced the BJP leaders in the center as well as local leaders in Ladakh. For self interests, the local leaders of Ladakh have misled the central government on this issue by saying that only few people of Ladakh are in favour of sixth schedule inclusion” he remarked.
“We have been demanding inclusion of sixth schedule to protect the eco fragile region of Himalaya in Ladakh and protect the culture and civilization of this region. On the name of development, indiscriminate destruction of nature is being done in Himalayan states like Himachal and Uttrakhand, where its adverse results were witnessed. We do not want destruction in eco fragile Ladakh by the industrialists on the name of development” he added.
“Apart from this we have been demanding statehood for UT Ladakh, which is presently governed by Lieutenant General. Lieutenant General is outside state, who is not aware about the terrain of Ladakh. So we want statehood to the UT Ladakh, which will be governed by the elected legislators of Ladakh” said Wangchuk.
Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on fast unto death strike along with 125 other activists in Ladakh in bone chilling temperature below zero degree from March 6 and he is getting support for this cause across the country and abroad.
