President Droupadi Murmu Highlights AIIMS’ Role in Healthcare Excellence at Convocation Ceremony.
New Delhi:
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi today. Addressing the gathering, the President lauded AIIMS for its prestigious role in healthcare, medical education, and life sciences research, both nationally and globally. She described AIIMS as a beacon of hope for millions of patients, emphasizing its commitment to serving the underprivileged with the same dedication as the privileged.
In her speech, President Murmu drew a parallel between AIIMS and the principles of Karma Yoga as described in the Bhagavad Gita, stating that the institution can be seen as a “running laboratory” of this philosophy. She highlighted that the institute’s faculty, along with its paramedics and non-medical staff, exemplify the selfless service embodied in Karma Yoga, offering their expertise with compassion and empathy to all patients.
The President commended AIIMS for its impressive 69-year legacy of excellence, which she attributed to its unwavering commitment to values, innovative research, and world-class patient care. She praised AIIMS as a “Made-in-India success story” and a model institution for others to emulate.
Further, President Murmu applauded AIIMS for its efforts to enhance governance, transparency, efficiency, and accountability, stressing that such principles are vital for the sustained growth and success of any institution.
Addressing the increasing concern of emotional and mental health issues, the President called on AIIMS to launch an awareness drive on mental health, urging the institution to address this often-overlooked challenge. She also advised the graduating students to focus on building meaningful careers, emphasizing the importance of serving underserved regions in India, where there is a shortage of medical professionals.
Finally, the President encouraged the students to remain mindful of their own physical and mental well-being, as they embark on their careers dedicated to healthcare and service to society.
