CM Sukhu Inaugurates IPD Services at AIMSS Chamiyana; Announces Robotic Surgery, Rs 200 Cr Tech Upgrade in Healthcare.
Shimla:
In a significant boost to Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated the In-Patient Department (IPD) services at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) in Chamiyana, near Shimla. The facility is set to become the first hospital in the state to offer robotic surgery, marking a major leap toward modern, technology-driven healthcare.
The inauguration of IPD services is part of the government’s larger vision to decongest IGMC Shimla and enhance medical services by shifting specialized departments to AIMSS. Departments including Gastroenterology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, and Plastic Surgery have already been transferred. Cardiology and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) will also be shifted within the next two months.
Inspecting the hospital campus, CM Sukhu directed health officials to maintain high standards of patient care and asked for a review of current services. He held a meeting with senior officers and emphasized the need to improve infrastructure, including the approach road and transport facilities to the hospital. The Public Works Department was instructed to expedite work on road connectivity for ease of access.
“The completion of this long-pending hospital project is being done using Rs. 23 crore from state resources. The facility has a capacity of 337 beds, high-end operation theatres, and a cath lab. It will be fully operational within six months,” said the Chief Minister.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to modernizing healthcare, CM Sukhu announced that Chamiyana will lead the way in robotic surgery, soon to be followed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (Tanda). He added that Three Tesla MRI machines would be installed in Tanda, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk, replacing outdated equipment like the 19-year-old MRI at IGMC.
“We are investing Rs. 200 crore to integrate cutting-edge technology into our hospitals. Our goal is to provide world-class treatment within the state, saving people the cost and trouble of seeking medical help elsewhere,” said Sukhu.
The event was also attended by Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Principal of AIMSS Brij Sharma, and other senior officials.
The development of AIMSS Chamiyana stands as a key milestone in the state’s vision to build a more robust, technology-enabled public healthcare system.
