NHM Official Dr. Vikas Sharma Attacked in Shimla; Incident Condemned, Call for Swift Action.

In a deeply disturbing incident, Dr. Vikas Sharma, a State Programme Officer working at the National Health Mission (NHM) office in Shimla, was subjected to a life-threatening attack on Monday morning. The attack has sparked widespread condemnation across the health community and drawn serious concerns over the safety of government officials.

Navneet Guleria, Vice President of the NHM Contract Employees Union, Himachal Pradesh, issued a strong statement to the media, describing the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable.” He urged the state government to take immediate and strict action against the assailants involved.

“This kind of violence against any officer or employee is absolutely intolerable,” Guleria said. “We demand that the culprits be identified, arrested at the earliest, and dealt with under the strictest legal provisions. Only then can we ensure a safe and secure working environment for all government personnel.”

The incident has raised alarm among staff and officials working under NHM and other state-run programs, with many expressing solidarity with Dr. Sharma and demanding enhanced security measures in government offices.

While the motive and identity of the attackers remain under investigation, authorities have initiated a probe into the matter. The NHM office has reportedly stepped up internal security following the incident.
