Darcha-Padum road has been reopened for the movement of light vehicles via Shinkula pass (16500 ft) between Lahaul valley in Himachal and Zanskar valley in Union Territory Ladakh today. The Deputy Commissioner Lahaul and Spiti Rahul Kumar has issued an order in this regard yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman District Disaster Management Authority Lahaul Spiti Rahul Kumar, exercising the powers vested under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, has ordered that the Darcha-Shinkula road will be officially opened for the movement of 4×4 light vehicles from today onwards. These vehicles are fit to ply on the snowy road.

DC said in the order that there will be movement of vehicles on alternate days on this route. Vehicles will leave from Darcha Police Check Post of Lahaul from 7 am to 11 am.

DC informed all the stakeholders and general public about the current road and weather conditions and avalanche, black icing incident, slippery road condition at Shinkula Pass. Keeping the possibility in mind, it has also been advised by the DC to ensure compliance with the daily advisory.

The Deputy Commissioner has also directed the Superintendent of Police, Lahaul Spiti Mayank Chaudhary to maintain proper arrangements for traffic operations on this road.

It is noteworthy that the Border Roads Organization 126RCC had completed the snow removal work from this Shinkula Pass route after heavy snowfall on April 6, which was officially closed till the summer season of this year on November 17, 2023.
