Shimla:
Future of the students of 46 colleges of the state is at stake due to delay in their examinations for the graduate courses of first year and second year in Himachal. These colleges falls under the jurisdiction of Sardar Patel university Mandi.
According to the official sources, the examinations have been delayed till mid May, which will have direct impact on the career of thousands of students studying in these colleges.
“The examinations of these classes have already been started in remaining other colleges of the state in the month of March, which are under the jurisdiction of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Shimla. Generally, the examinations of these classes are started every year in the colleges across the state during March and concludes till end of April” the source said.
The political rivalry between state government and university administration is proving a costly affairs to the students studying in these colleges. The students accused both state government and university administration that both are playing with their future.
Sardar Patel University administration is accusing the state government for a long time that it is deliberately ignoring the interests of the university.
Professor Anupama Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor of SPU Mandi said that “there is a staff crunch in this university and we apprised the government about it. But the state government did not pay any heed toward our demand to fill up the vacant posts. Due to staff shortage, the work of university is suffering badly. Due to apathy of state government the future of thousands of students is in the dark.”
“SPU Mandi is a victim of utter neglect of the state government. Currently
Work is being affected due to acute shortage of staff and resources. SPU did not get permission from the government to declare the results of JOAIT. With more than 100 vacant posts, the university running with only 26 teachers and 59 officers and employees, the employees of the examination Branch of this university is working under immense pressure” she remarked.
“Four huge buildings have been built, which are lying unused because permission is not being given to start new courses. Meetings of the Executive Council and Finance Committee are not being held due to political hatred” she said.
“State government is giving step-motherly treatment to SPU Mandi. On one hand the meetings of the Executive Council and Finance Committee of HPU Shimla are being held and appointments are being approved. While on the other hand the government is not giving permission to fill the vacant posts in the SPU Mandi and the regular meetings of the Executive Council and the Finance Committee are not being held to run the work of the SPU. Due to that many works of the university have come to a halt. SPU has to run its work with an annual budget of only Rs 10 crores whereas the annual budget of HPU Shimla is more than Rs 150 crores” said Anupama.
“Due to shortage of staff, examinations have been delayed too much, which will be conducted from mid May month” she added.
Surina Sharma, principal of government Vallabh College Mandi also expressed her concern on examination issue because it is directly impacting the future of students.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that official sitting on top chair in the SPU university administration is running an agenda of a particular party. The university administration should ensure coordination with the state government.
“State government was releasing funds of SPU time to time. I will look into the matter of examinations, why it has been delayed by the university administration” he added.
It is particular to mention here that the Pro Vice Chancellor of Sardar Patel university Anupama Singh was in a race for the ticket of BJP from Mandi Lok Sabha seat to contest the election but she could not succeed to get the party ticket. Due to that there is a direct political rivalry between university administration and the state government.
