New Delhi:

In a high-level meeting held on in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, urging the Centre to prioritize several key infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing road connectivity and boosting strategic and economic development in the state.

During the meeting, Singh made a strong pitch for declaring the Ghatasni–Shilha–Badhani–Bhubujot–Kullu road, including the proposed Bhubujot tunnel, as a National Highway, highlighting its strategic importance. He pointed out that the road, once developed, would serve as a crucial corridor for defence logistics and would also shorten the travel distance to Kullu by approximately 55 kilometers, ensuring all-weather, stable connectivity in this remote and sensitive region.

He emphasized that the route’s upgradation would not only enhance defense preparedness but also unlock the economic and tourism potential of the interior areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The PWD Minister also requested that the four-laning of NH-05 between Dhalli and Rampur be taken up on priority, citing growing traffic volumes and the need for safer, faster transit through one of the state’s most vital arteries.

Highlighting the importance of ongoing projects, Singh urged for the expedited completion of existing highway construction works in the state, ensuring minimal delays and swift execution for public benefit.

He further informed the Union Minister that the Himachal Pradesh government has submitted a proposal to include five National Highway projects under the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti initiative and sought early approval from the Central Government. Inclusion in the Gati Shakti program would allow integrated planning and fast-tracked implementation of critical infrastructure.

Addressing funding concerns, Singh requested the release of Rs. 130 crore under the Central Road Fund (CRF), which is pending for various road development works in the state. He also appealed to enhance the annual CRF allocation limit to Rs. 250 crore, considering the challenging terrain and increased road infrastructure demands of Himachal Pradesh.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave a patient hearing to all the demands and assured full cooperation from the Ministry. He approved in principle the four-laning of the Dhalli–Rampur section, a move welcomed by the Himachal delegation.

Abhishek Jain, Secretary, PWD, accompanied the Minister during the meeting, which is seen as a significant step toward strengthening Himachal’s road infrastructure and bolstering regional development.

This engagement reflects the state government’s proactive approach in aligning with national infrastructure priorities and ensuring that Himachal’s unique geographic challenges are addressed through focused policy and funding support.
