CM Sukhu to Visit RPGMC Tanda, Reaffirms Vision for a Modern, Inclusive Healthcare System in Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla:

In a continued push to modernize and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will visit the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) in Tanda Kangra district. The visit is part of a broader initiative to foster direct dialogue with medical professionals and enhance the delivery of healthcare services through practical, consultative governance.

A state government spokesperson, speaking today, highlighted the significant reforms introduced over the past two and a half years under CM Sukhu’s leadership. “The government has ensured the judicious use of resources, resulting in an unprecedented expansion of healthcare facilities,” the spokesperson said, pointing to the upgradation of multiple hospitals, establishment of new sub-health and primary health centres, and the notification of additional block medical offices as evidence of rapid progress.

During his visit to RPGMC Tanda, the Chief Minister will receive a detailed presentation on the ongoing improvements and future plans concerning infrastructure, staffing, and medical technology at the institute. He will also participate in an interactive session with faculty members to seek feedback and address challenges being faced in clinical practice, education, and patient care.

This visit follows similar engagements held at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, and the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS), Chamiyana. These consultations aim to create a responsive healthcare system built in collaboration with those at the frontlines—doctors, faculty, and hospital administrators.

A Statewide Healthcare Overhaul in Motion

A key highlight of Himachal’s healthcare transformation is the upcoming launch of robotic surgery at AIMSS Chamiyana—an initiative that will place the state on the national map for high-end surgical care. CM Sukhu has mandated the replacement of all medical machinery and diagnostic equipment that has been in use for more than 20 years, setting a one-year deadline to ensure state-of-the-art infrastructure across all government health institutions.

As part of the government’s commitment to equity in healthcare delivery, 69 Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans (Model Health Institutions) are being established across each of the state’s 68 assembly constituencies, with two in Lahaul and Spiti. These centres are already operational in most locations and are staffed with six specialist doctors. Equipped with advanced facilities including digital X-rays and ultrasound machines, they will offer 134 types of diagnostic tests free of cost to citizens.

To support this expansive initiative, the state government has allocated Rs.1,730 crore in the 2025–26 financial year for the procurement of advanced medical equipment for medical colleges, regional and civil hospitals, and community health centres.

Dialysis services, which are currently operational in 20 Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans, will be extended to the remaining 49 centres at a cost of Rs. 41.62 crore. Additionally, blood storage units will be set up in 11 institutions to enhance emergency care.

Diagnostic Services Get a Major Boost

In a significant leap toward modern diagnostics, Himachal Pradesh is upgrading major medical colleges including IGMC Shimla, AIMSS Chamiyana, and institutions in Hamirpur and Nerchowk with modern imaging technology such as MRI machines. A PET scan facility will also soon be introduced at IGMC Shimla, enhancing the state’s capacity to diagnose and treat cancer and other complex conditions.

A Model State in the Making

Chief Minister Sukhu’s comprehensive healthcare roadmap reflects a commitment to building a self-reliant, technologically advanced, and patient-centric health system. His vision rests on ensuring that even the most remote areas of Himachal Pradesh have access to affordable and quality medical care.

With new-age technology like robotic surgery, proactive infrastructure development, and inclusive planning, Himachal Pradesh is well on its way to becoming a model state in healthcare—a model where every citizen receives timely, modern, and dignified treatment.
