Himachal Govt to Launch Website and App for Overseas Employment: CM Sukhu.
Shimla:
In a major initiative aimed at empowering youth seeking international employment, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Labour and Employment Department to develop a dedicated website and mobile application to facilitate safe and transparent overseas job opportunities for the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
The digital platform will compile a comprehensive database of aspiring candidates and provide essential information about overseas job markets, ensuring transparency, accessibility, and protection against exploitation.
“Youth of Himachal Pradesh are hardworking, honest and capable. The State Government is committed to helping them secure well-paying jobs abroad while protecting them from potential fraud and exploitation,” said the Chief Minister.
CM Sukhu informed that the Himachal Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (HPSEDC) has obtained a license as a registered recruitment agency and will collaborate with certified training providers to skill youth in trades that are in high demand globally — including nursing, hospitality, healthcare, driving, machine operations, and various technical roles.
He highlighted that around 10,000 youth from the state travel abroad annually for employment and another 5,000 pursue higher education. In 2023–24, Himachalis working overseas sent home Rs. 2,030 crore in remittances — a noteworthy contribution given the state’s population.
CM Sukhu also directed the department to launch awareness campaigns to promote safe migration and ensure youths use only registered agencies. He stressed the need to study successful models from Kerala and Telangana, noting Kerala’s significantly higher overseas employment rate (57.94 per 1,000) compared to Himachal’s (5.36 per 1,000).
Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed officials to develop a database of Himachali NRIs to better connect with and support the diaspora.
Present at the meeting were Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, MLA Suresh Kumar, CM’s Political Advisor Sunil Sharma, Principal Advisor (Media) Naresh Chauhan, Chairman of HP Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Nardev Kanwar, Secretaries Priyanka Basu and Rakhil Kahlon, Labour Commissioner Virender Sharma, and Yashu Deep Singh from the Ministry of External Affairs.
