Vice President, Prime Minister and Dignitaries Pay Tributes to Parliament Attack Martyrs on 13th Anniversary.

India today solemnly remembered the martyrs of the 2001 terrorist attack on the Parliament, paying homage to the brave security personnel and staff who laid down their lives defending the nation’s highest democratic institution.

Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Members of Parliament, former MPs, and other dignitaries participated in the tribute ceremony at the Parliament House Complex. Secretary-Generals of both Houses, Utpal Kumar Singh and P. C. Mody, along with family members of the martyrs, also paid their respects.

Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla shared a message highlighting the valor and sacrifice of the heroes. He said: “Our collective commitment to protecting the nation’s unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty is not merely a formal declaration, but a strong message that India will never bow down to any kind of terrorist intent. Their unparalleled dedication to the nation is a constant source of inspiration for future generations.”

On 13 December 2001, Jagdish Prasad Yadav and Matbar Singh Negi (Rajya Sabha Secretariat), Kamlesh Kumari (CRPF), Nanak Chand and Rampal (Delhi Police), Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, Ghanshyam (Delhi Police), and Deshraj (CPWD) attained martyrdom while thwarting the attack.

In recognition of their bravery, Jagdish Prasad Yadav, Matbar Singh Negi, and Kamlesh Kumari were posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, while Nanak Chand, Rampal, Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, and Ghanshyam were posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra.

This solemn commemoration underscores India’s unwavering stand against terrorism and honors the sacrifices that safeguard its democratic values.
