Deputy Commissioner and Local Representatives Visit Flood-Affected Mayar Valley; Relief Efforts Underway.
Shimla:
In response to the recent devastating floods in the Mayar Valley, a high-level team comprising district administration officials, departmental representatives, and local elected leaders conducted an on-ground inspection of the affected areas today. The visit was led by the Deputy Commissioner, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of the situation.
Due to the heavy rise in water levels, the inspection team was unable to proceed beyond the village of Changut. The region remains severely impacted, with road connectivity disrupted and many areas cut off. Restoration of roads has been prioritized, and machinery has already been deployed from today to initiate clearing and repair work.
Emergency supplies, including food grains and essential materials, have been distributed to the affected families by the administration. Efforts are also underway to restore essential services like drinking water and electricity. The concerned departments have been mobilized to ensure the prompt reinstatement of these utilities.
As an immediate relief measure, the government and district administration have announced a compensation of Rs. 10,000 per family. This financial aid will be disbursed shortly to assist the victims in meeting their urgent needs. Meanwhile, a comprehensive assessment of the damage is ongoing, particularly in the agricultural sector where significant losses to farmland and crops have been reported. Field officers have been assigned the task of evaluating the extent of this destruction.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. However, the impact on livelihoods, especially among farmers, is substantial.
MLA Anuradha Rana reassured residents that the government and administration stand firmly with them in this time of crisis. Chief Minister has been apprised of the situation and has promised all necessary support and compensation. Additionally, Tribal Affairs and Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has also taken cognizance of the incident and assured every possible assistance to the flood-affected communities.
MLA Rana emphasized that the administration is fully committed to accelerating relief and rehabilitation operations to restore normalcy in the valley at the earliest.
