Rooting Wellness: Ashwagandha Awareness Drive Takes Off in Sarkaghat.

Ashwagandha Awareness Workshop was held at Gram Panchayat Barchwad, organized by Vallabh Government College, Mandi, under the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

The event drew 70 participants, including farmers, students, and healthcare workers. Chief Guest Dr. Hem Lata, SDAMO Sarkaghat, inaugurated the programme, while Nisha Kumari, Pradhan, delivered the welcome address.
Dr. Tara Sen, Principal Investigator, briefed participants on Ashwagandha’s medicinal, nutritional, and livelihood potential. Expert lectures were delivered by Dr. Rajni Sharma and Dr. Hem Lata on cultivation, utilization, and market opportunities.
In the afternoon, 1500 Ashwagandha plants were distributed. The campaign targets distribution of 5,000 nursery plants across Tehsil Sarkaghat. Farmers and community members can collect plants even after August 14 from the SDAMO Office, Sarkaghat.

As a special initiative, refreshments were served to the farmers, in which Ashwagandha root powder was added to samosas and pakoras, demonstrating its incorporation into everyday foods for health benefits.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sen and the National Anthem.
