Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern and solidarity with the people affected by the cloudburst and ensuing floods in Kishtwar district, located in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The natural disaster, which struck the region recently, caused widespread disruption, triggering immediate rescue and relief operations.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences and reassured the nation that the central government is actively monitoring the situation and will ensure every possible form of assistance is extended to those affected.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Prompt Relief Measures Underway
Rescue teams including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other local emergency services have been deployed to the region. Relief operations are being conducted on a war footing to ensure timely evacuation, medical aid, and supply of essential goods to the affected residents.
The administration is working in coordination with central agencies to assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate support, including temporary shelters, food supplies, and medical facilities.

Nationwide Support and Prayers
As the nation prepares to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day, the Prime Minister’s message during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav underscores the government’s empathy and swift action in the face of natural disasters. Leaders from across the political spectrum, civil society organizations, and citizens have also extended their support and expressed solidarity with the people of Kishtwar.
Long-Term Rehabilitation on the Agenda
While immediate rescue and relief are ongoing, the government is also preparing for long-term rehabilitation, including restoration of damaged infrastructure and compensation for affected families.
