Himachal Govt to Launch 100 CBSE-Affiliated Day-Boarding Schools from Next Session.

Major Education Reform Aims to Raise Standards, Promote Holistic Student Development Across the State.

Shimla:

In a significant move aimed at transforming the public education system in Himachal Pradesh, the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that 100 Government Senior Secondary Schools will be affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) starting from the next academic session. These schools will function as day-boarding institutions, offering a comprehensive and holistic model of education.

First Phase: One CBSE School in Every Assembly Constituency

As part of the first phase, at least one CBSE school will be established in every assembly constituency to ensure equitable access to quality education for students across all regions of the state. These institutions will follow the nationally benchmarked CBSE curriculum, which is widely recognized for its alignment with national-level competitive exams and higher education standards.

A government spokesperson stated, “This initiative will not only enhance the academic competitiveness of Himachali students but also better equip them to face the challenges of the 21st century. It will open new doors for higher education, employment, and professional careers.”

Promoting Healthy Competition, Academic Excellence

The dual-board approach—coexistence of schools under the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) and newly affiliated CBSE institutions—is expected to promote healthy competition among schools, motivating both teachers and students to improve performance and strive for excellence.

The introduction of CBSE curriculum in government schools will also help standardize academic practices and evaluation methods in line with national frameworks, making students more competitive on a broader scale.

New CBSE Sub-Cadre and Staff Incentive Plans

To operationalize this reform, the state government will create a separate Sub-Cadre for the CBSE-affiliated schools. Existing teachers will be offered the option to join this cadre. Recruitment of principals, teaching, and non-teaching staff will be carried out strictly on merit, taking into account academic performance, co-curricular engagement, and professional achievements.

A Performance-Based Incentive Scheme will also be rolled out, offering both monetary and non-monetary rewards to encourage and recognize high-performing staff.

Day-Boarding Model: A Focus on Holistic Development

A standout feature of the initiative is the adoption of the day-boarding model for all 100 CBSE schools. This model goes beyond traditional academics, focusing on the all-round development of students. The schools will provide structured programs in:

  • Academic Excellence and Remedial Support
  • Nutrition and Midday Meals
  • Sports and Physical Fitness
  • Arts and Cultural Activities
  • Vocational Skilling and Life Skills
  • Counseling, Mentorship, and Career Guidance

Additional staff posts will be created wherever necessary to implement these support systems effectively.

Vision for Future-Ready Education

The spokesperson emphasized that these reforms reflect the government’s vision for inclusive, high-quality, and future-ready education. “Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh is taking bold steps to create a modern, equitable, and empowering learning ecosystem. These CBSE schools will set benchmarks not only for the state but for the entire country,” he said.

The rollout of this initiative underscores the government’s long-term commitment to educational transformation and positioning Himachal Pradesh as a leader in school education reforms.

This education overhaul comes at a time when the state is already making strides in digital learning, skill development, and tech-driven curriculum reform—further cementing Himachal’s place on the national education innovation map.
