London:
In a historic moment for Himachal Pradesh and India, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has become the first-ever Chief Minister of an Indian state to address the prestigious House of Lords in London. His keynote address at the Indo-European Business Forum (IEBF) on September 22, 2025, was a powerful pitch to global investors, urging them to explore the vast opportunities emerging in Himachal Pradesh in sectors such as clean energy, responsible tourism, horticulture, information technology, and wellness.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is not only a year-round tourist destination but also an emerging business hub with enormous potential in various industries. He stated that the state’s 100% literacy rate and its strong foundation of trust, resilience, and stability make it an attractive destination for investment.
“The vision of a self-reliant Himachal Pradesh is one that is shared with the people of our state,” said Sukhu. “Through systemic reforms — ‘Vyavastha Parivartan se Aatmanirbhar Himachal’ — we are building a future that blends development with sustainability, ensuring prosperity for all our citizens.”
A Hub for Clean and Green Energy, IT, and Tourism
CM Sukhu took the opportunity to highlight Himachal Pradesh’s leadership role in hydropower and renewable energy, sectors where European expertise and Indian aspirations can create synergies. He outlined his government’s forward-looking policies aimed at driving the state’s growth in clean and green energy, responsible tourism, horticulture, IT, and food processing.
“Himachal Pradesh is not just a place of beauty and serenity; it is now a land of opportunities. We are positioning ourselves as a hub for innovation, and we welcome global partners to join us in creating a sustainable future,” said Sukhu.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the state’s strong agricultural base, including the globally recognized Himachal apples, which have now been joined by other high-value crops such as organic vegetables, floriculture, and dairy-based initiatives. He pointed out that these developments offer new avenues for innovation, particularly for international markets.
The Wellness and Sustainable Lifestyle Appeal
A significant part of Sukhu’s address was dedicated to the potential for wellness tourism and sustainable lifestyles in Himachal Pradesh, an area that has seen tremendous interest from tourists seeking a retreat in nature. He urged European investors to explore opportunities in the state’s burgeoning wellness and organic products sectors.
“Himachal Pradesh is consistently ranked among India’s top-performing states, especially in the social sector,” Sukhu emphasized. “We have created an environment that not only supports business but nurtures it with a focus on sustainability, trust, and partnerships.”
Leadership and Governance Award
In recognition of his transformative leadership and visionary governance, the Chief Minister was also honoured with the prestigious Leadership and Governance Award by the Indo-European Business Forum. The award was presented to Sukhu for his dedicated efforts in implementing progressive reforms in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in clean energy, sustainable tourism, and the empowerment of local communities.
The award ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including IEBF Founder Vijay Goel, Lord David Evans, Minister Kanishka Narayan, Minister Seema Malhotra, Virender Sharma, His Excellency Samuel Mahama (from Ghana), Dr. Rohitga Sri Lanka’s former Foreign Minister, Dr. Neerja Birla, Niharika Handa, Tejesh Kumar Kodali, Subodh Kumar Gupta, and Sandip Sali.
