In a proactive move aimed at accelerating development and ensuring effective governance, Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana chaired a joint review meeting of the Project Approval Committee (PAC) and Forest Rights Act (FRA) committee in Kaza on Thursday. The meeting also included a review of the Special Area Development Authority (SADA) to assess ongoing works and local issues.

During the meeting, several residents raised concerns regarding inactive village-level committees under the FRA in the Spiti valley. Due to the inactivity of these bodies, people’s land and housing claims under the FRA were not reaching the sub-divisional level committees in time. Responding to this, MLA Rana directed officials to dissolve such non-functional committees and reconstitute new ones to ensure that public claims are processed promptly and efficiently.

The MLA conducted a detailed review of all developmental departments and emphasized her top priorities — water, roads, health, education, and electricity. She made it clear that any negligence in these key areas would not be tolerated.

She instructed officials to regularly update local representatives about the progress of development projects and to conduct timely inspections. Specifically, the electricity department was ordered to complete all necessary work before snowfall begins, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even during harsh weather conditions.

Rana stressed that all departments must prioritize tasks directly linked to public needs and complete them within set deadlines. She also cautioned the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) against constructing unnecessary retaining walls and culverts that not only waste public funds but also affect local livelihoods.

The MLA gave directives for clearing debris from agricultural fields and irrigation canals on priority and urged all departments to maintain transparency and accountability in their work.

“Every officer and employee must work with dedication and honesty so that the common people do not face any difficulty in accessing government services,” Rana stated. She reiterated her commitment to the all-round development of the Lahaul-Spiti constituency and insisted that timely redressal of public grievances and delivery of government schemes to every section of society should be the guiding principle for all administrative actions.

Her firm directives were welcomed by locals, who appreciated the MLA’s hands-on approach and concern for grassroots issues.
