Shimla:

In a deeply emotional and proud moment, Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh paid tribute to his late father, six-time Chief Minister and towering Congress leader Raja Virbhadra Singh, during the unveiling of his statue at the historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla. The statue was formally unveiled by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in the presence of senior Congress leaders, cabinet members, and an overwhelming public gathering.

Calling it a “monument not just of stone, but of values, ideals, and unshakable dedication to public service,” Vikramaditya Singh said the occasion was a moment of both profound pride and deep emotion for him, his family, and the people of Himachal Pradesh.

“This is a deeply emotional and proud moment to remember the life and indelible contributions of my father, Raja Virbhadra Singh ji,” said Vikramaditya Singh. “Today, this statue stands not just as a tribute to a great leader but as a symbol of his ideals, struggles, and relentless service to the people.”

Reflecting on his father’s enduring legacy, Vikramaditya described Virbhadra Singh as a leader whose life was synonymous with dedication to public welfare, pride in culture, and tireless service to every section of society. “He was the heartbeat of Himachal — his soul lived in its mountains, and his love was rooted in its soil,” he said.

He further remarked that the statue is not merely a memorial but a powerful message — “that those who dedicate their lives to the service of society become immortal.” He expressed hope that the monument would inspire future generations to follow in the footsteps of Virbhadra Singh, uphold public trust, and preserve the cultural identity and values of Himachal Pradesh.

“Father… your affection, your guidance, and your legacy remain with us even today. This statue is like a lamp that will continue to illuminate the path for future generations,” said Vikramaditya in his moving tribute.

He concluded the message by expressing that being Virbhadra Singh’s son is the greatest honour and asset of his life. His tribute ended with a spiritual note — “Jai Shri Ram” — reflecting both personal reverence and public devotion.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by prominent Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, and thousands of supporters and citizens, showcasing the continued reverence for Virbhadra Singh even years after his passing.

The event marked the fulfillment of a long-standing public demand to install a statue of Virbhadra Singh at the Ridge Maidan — a place he had addressed countless public meetings from during his five-decade-long political journey. The massive turnout was a testament to his enduring popularity and legacy as a mass leader who shaped the modern political and developmental trajectory of Himachal Pradesh.
