President Murmu Calls for Tech-Driven Social Impact at NIT Delhi Convocation.
New Delhi:
President of India Droupadi Murmu today graced the fifth convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Delhi, urging graduating students to couple innovation with social responsibility and contribute actively to nation-building.
Addressing students, faculty members, and dignitaries, the President lauded the rapid progress made by NIT Delhi, stating that the institute had established itself nationally in a remarkably short span. She commended its emphasis on modern infrastructure, academic excellence, multidisciplinary education, and research-driven learning.
President Murmu noted with satisfaction that NIT Delhi has set up a dedicated start-up center to encourage entrepreneurship among students and faculty. The institute is also developing an Incubation Center to provide expert mentorship and facilities for converting innovative ideas into sustainable business ventures. Such initiatives, she said, would empower young innovators and promote a culture of self-reliance.
Highlighting India’s forward march toward becoming a developed nation, the President said that national progress is rooted not just in economic growth but also in inclusive development, technological advancement, environmental sustainability, and social equity. She cited government flagship programs like Digital India, Make in India, Start-up India, Skill India, Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan as key drivers of this transformation.
President Murmu emphasized the significant role higher technical institutions like NITs can play in shaping “model digital villages.” She encouraged institutions to create simple technological solutions, promote digital literacy, and collaborate with industries to enhance rural facilities. Such interventions, she said, would help bridge the urban-rural divide and contribute to equitable development.
Speaking directly to the graduating students, the President reminded them that they are now essential contributors to India’s scientific and technological landscape. She encouraged them to embrace continuous learning, pursue research, and demonstrate courage in developing cutting-edge technologies. True progress, she stressed, lies not merely in invention but in the positive impact those inventions create for society.
“Whether you develop sustainable energy solutions, accessible technologies, or innovations for rural and underprivileged communities, your efforts should reduce inequalities and bring hope to people’s lives,” President Murmu said, expressing confidence that the graduates would make both NIT Delhi and the nation proud.
The ceremony concluded with the conferring of degrees upon students, marking a milestone in their academic journey and setting the stage for their contributions to India’s future.
