Shimla:

In a major boost to the disaster-hit Seraj region of Mandi district, the central government has approved Rs. 137.40 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for the reconstruction and upgradation of the crucial Mandi–Gagal–Chailchowk–Janjehli road. The vital stretch, which connects several remote villages, suffered severe damage in this year’s devastating monsoon, leaving residents isolated and impacting transportation, livelihood and emergency services.

The sanctioned funds aim to restore the heavily battered infrastructure, strengthen slope protection, and enhance road safety measures to prevent future damage. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity and ensure safer travel across the region, particularly benefiting communities in Seraj that rely on the route for daily commuting, healthcare access and agricultural transportation.

Congress leader from Seraj, Jagdish Reddy, welcomed the approval and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his efforts in securing the funding. He said the development would bring major relief to local residents and accelerate the region’s recovery from monsoon-triggered destruction.

The reconstruction work is expected to begin soon, marking an important step toward rebuilding critical infrastructure in disaster-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh.
