₹75-lakh facility marks a new chapter for the NCC Air Wing, opening up better aviation training opportunities for youth in the state.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a newly constructed National Cadet Corps (NCC) hangar at Bhuntar Airport in Kullu district on Monday. Built at a cost of ₹75 lakh, the facility marks an important milestone for the NCC Air Wing in Himachal Pradesh and is expected to strengthen aviation training infrastructure in the state.

The establishment of the hangar is a significant step towards providing better aviation training opportunities to young people, particularly those from the mountainous, remote and rural areas of Himachal Pradesh.

During the inauguration ceremony, the aircraft received a grand welcome with a water cannon salute as it proceeded towards the newly constructed hangar. NCC cadets also showcased static and flyable aircraft models, along with drones designed and developed by them. The demonstrations highlighted the cadets’ technical skills, creativity and growing interest in aviation and emerging technologies.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhu said the new hangar would play an important role in strengthening aviation training facilities in the region. It would provide Air NCC cadets with improved opportunities to gain practical aviation knowledge, undergo simulator-based training and develop their flying skills.

He said the facility would help young people in Himachal Pradesh acquire the skills required to pursue careers in aviation while also developing leadership qualities, discipline and a sense of responsibility.

The Chief Minister encouraged Air NCC cadets to pursue their aspirations in the aviation sector and said the state government wanted to see young people from Himachal Pradesh make progress in this field. He added that the activation of the NCC flying node and the commencement of training activities at Bhuntar Airport would inspire youth, particularly those from the state’s mountainous regions, to explore career opportunities in the Indian Air Force and civil aviation.

The facility assumes special significance as it is the first dedicated facility of its kind in Kullu since the inception of the NCC Air Wing in Himachal Pradesh in 1972. Its establishment follows efforts to overcome longstanding infrastructure constraints, administrative complexities and operational challenges.

The hangar is expected to bring aviation training opportunities closer to aspiring young aviators and enable cadets to gain greater exposure to aircraft operations and flying-related activities without having to travel to distant locations.

Earlier, the Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at Bhuntar Airport.

MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairperson Vidya Negi, APMC Chairman Ram Singh Mian, NCC Group Commander of Shimla Group Headquarters Brigadier Harpreet Singh, NCC officers and staff, cadets and their parents were present at the inauguration ceremony.
