Shimla:

The NCC Air Wing Kullu unit successfully concluded its 300 km Cycling Expedition from Kullu to Shimla, a spirited initiative aimed at motivating young students to explore career opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces. The expedition, flagged-in today by the NCC Group Headquarters Shimla, marked the end of a physically challenging and inspirational journey that left a significant imprint on the youth across Himachal Pradesh.

Organised in collaboration with NCC Group HQ Shimla and the Department of Higher Education, the expedition traversed through Banjar, Jalori Top, Anni, Narkanda and Theog before reaching its final destination in Shimla. The cadets showcased remarkable endurance and determination, particularly while crossing the formidable 10,000-ft Jalori Pass—an achievement reflecting the discipline and resilience vital for Armed Forces aspirants.

A major highlight of the expedition was the outreach programme led by Wing Commander Kunal Sharma, Indian Air Force, and Commanding Officer of 1 HP Air Squadron NCC Kullu. Serving as the chief speaker throughout the journey, he interacted with students of 15 schools and colleges along the route, motivating more than 1,400 young learners to consider the vast array of opportunities available in the Army, Navy, Air Force and various defence entry examinations such as NDA, CDS, AFCAT, Agniveer and NCC Special Entry.

During these sessions, students eagerly sought guidance on preparation strategies for different defence career paths, opportunities available after Class 12 and graduation, physical fitness requirements, academic expectations and the role of NCC training in facilitating entry into the Armed Forces. Wing Commander Sharma addressed their queries with depth and clarity, urging them to remain disciplined, focused and committed to contributing to the nation.

The expedition team comprised Wing Commander Kunal Sharma; Flying Officer Prof. Nishchal Sharma, ANO, NCC Air Wing, Government College Kullu; and Dr. Himang Sharma from Rippon Hospital, Shimla, along with support staff including JWO Rehman, Sergeant Mukesh, Sergeant Rajnish Guleria, Sergeant Mandeep, GCI Pooja, AMI Reshma, Home Guard personnel Gulshan Nanda and Shyam.

During the flag-in ceremony in Shimla, Wing Commander Sharma underscored the transformative role of NCC in shaping disciplined, responsible and service-oriented youth. He highlighted that such expeditions not only enhance physical endurance but also instill values that form the foundation of a successful career in the Armed Forces.

The 300 km expedition has left a lasting impact on thousands of students across the region, reinforcing NCC’s mission of guiding India’s youth toward honourable and fulfilling careers in national defence.
