A devastating accident occurred today on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, claiming 13 lives and leaving 35 people injured. The pile-up involved eight buses and three smaller vehicles, sparking a massive inferno that engulfed several vehicles.

The accident happened around 4:30 am on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, due to extremely low visibility caused by dense fog. Parvati, a 42-year-old mother, managed to push her two children, Prachi and Sunny, out of a broken window to safety before disappearing in the chaos. Her brother-in-law, Gulzari, is still searching for her at hospitals.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Mathura, Shlok Kumar, stated that the accident was a two-layered collision, with multiple buses ramming into each other. The police received a call at 4:02 am, and response vehicles arrived promptly, but the dense fog hindered rescue efforts.

The injured were rushed to hospitals, and authorities announced compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured. The National Highways Authority of India and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) assisted in rescue operations.
