Quality Medicines to Be Ensured in Government Health Institutions: Chief Minister Sukhu.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday chaired a high-level meeting of senior officers of the Health Department and directed that patients visiting government health institutions across Himachal Pradesh be provided with quality medicines without compromise.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government would soon invite tenders worth approximately Rs. 100 crore for the procurement of medicines and would ensure the participation of reputed pharmaceutical companies. He emphasized that medicines would be procured directly from manufacturers, eliminating intermediaries, so that world-class and reliable drugs are made available to patients in government hospitals and health centres throughout the state.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to public health, Shri Sukhu said that if required, amendments would also be made to the Drugs Act to safeguard public interest and ensure the supply of quality medicines to the people. “There will be no compromise on the quality of medicines provided in government health institutions,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister said that the present government was making continuous efforts to strengthen and reform the health sector, with several measures already being implemented to improve healthcare delivery. He underlined that quality medicines are a cornerstone of effective healthcare and that the government’s goal was to provide world-class health facilities to the people within the state itself.

He also directed the Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation to procure medicines for its Jan Aushadhi and other medicine outlets directly from pharmaceutical companies instead of authorized dealers, ensuring both quality and cost-effectiveness.

“There is no shortage of funds with the State Government, but public money must be spent judiciously and exclusively in the interest and welfare of the people,” the Chief Minister said.

Health Secretary Priyanka Basu Ingty, Managing Director of H.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation Rajeshwar Goyal, Special Secretary Health Jitender Sanjta, Director of Health Services Dr. Gopal Beri, and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
