Himachal Welcomes Tourists, but Disrespect to Devbhoomi’s Culture Will Not Be Tolerated: PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh.
Shimla:
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh has issued a strong and clear message to tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh, stating that while the state warmly welcomes visitors from across the country and the world, any act that disrespects its culture, faith, and traditions will not be tolerated.
Emphasising that Himachal Pradesh is not just a tourist destination but a sacred Devbhoomi, the minister said the state is a land of deep religious faith, rich cultural heritage, and centuries-old divine traditions. “Tourists are always welcome in Himachal, but playing with the dignity and sanctity of Devbhoomi will not be accepted under any circumstances,” he said.
The minister’s statement comes in the backdrop of several objectionable photos and videos circulating on social media in recent times. These visuals allegedly show tourists indulging in inappropriate behaviour at religious places, on snow-covered roads, and in public areas. He said such acts deeply hurt the sentiments of local communities and go against the values and culture of Himachal Pradesh.
Vikramaditya Singh made it clear that respect and safety are assured to every visitor, provided they honour local traditions and social boundaries. He warned against activities such as inappropriate photoshoots near temples, consumption of alcohol or drugs in public places, creating loud disturbances, and engaging in indecent behaviour, calling them acts of direct disrespect rather than signs of tourism or modernity.
“Himachal invites you with open arms—to enjoy its snow-clad mountains, natural beauty, local cuisine, and divine culture. But anyone who violates our faith and cultural ethos will have to face not only the collective voice of society but also strict action by the administration,” the minister stated.
He urged tourists to behave responsibly and make their visit memorable by embracing the spirit of the land. “Come to Devbhoomi, make yourself at home, but ensure that your conduct upholds the dignity of this sacred land,” he added.
The statement reinforces the state government’s commitment to promoting responsible tourism while preserving Himachal Pradesh’s cultural and spiritual identity.
