G7 Leaders Reaffirm Strong Support for Ukraine on Fourth Anniversary of Russian Invasion.
Brussels:
On the fourth anniversary of Russia’s renewed invasion of Ukraine in 2022, leaders of the G7 issued a unified statement reaffirming their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The leaders also highlighted ongoing efforts to promote peace, humanitarian assistance, and energy security in Ukraine.
Support for Peace and Security
The G7 leaders expressed strong backing for initiatives led by former U.S. President Donald Trump to advance peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that only direct, good-faith talks between the two countries can result in a lasting agreement. They noted Europe’s central role in facilitating these discussions, alongside other international partners.
The statement reaffirmed commitments made under the Coalition of the Willing to provide “robust and reliable security guarantees” to Ukraine, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities against ongoing aggression.
Humanitarian and Energy Assistance
Highlighting humanitarian efforts, the G7 leaders pledged continued support to the Ukrainian population. Since January 2026, more than 2,500 generators and essential equipment—including transformers, turbines, cogeneration units, boilers, and repair tools—have been shipped from G7 countries to Kyiv. Additionally, over half a billion euros in new pledges were made to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to repair and protect the country’s energy infrastructure.
“These measures aim to ensure a resilient and robust energy system, essential for Ukraine’s recovery and for weathering the next winter,” the statement said.
Nuclear Safety Commitment
The G7 leaders underscored their commitment to nuclear safety, collaborating with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Ukrainian authorities to fund the early rehabilitation of the Chornobyl containment arch. The initiative is intended to prevent any potential radiological incident with serious humanitarian and environmental consequences across Europe.
Support for Ukrainian Families and Children
The statement also highlighted efforts to ensure the safe and immediate return of Ukrainian children to their families, commending the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
Ongoing Commitment
The G7 reaffirmed that they will continue providing financial, humanitarian, and technical support to Ukraine, including energy infrastructure, security, and relief programs, reflecting a sustained international commitment to the country’s recovery, resilience, and peace efforts.
The unified message comes at a critical moment, emphasizing global solidarity with Ukraine while encouraging negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in good faith.
