SUKHU GOVERNMENT EXTENDS HEALING TOUCH TO ORPHAN CHILDREN WITH ADMISSIONS IN TOP SCHOOLS AND HOLISTIC SUPPORT.

Himachal becomes first state to enact law ensuring dignified life, education, and future for orphaned children.

Shimla:

In a compassionate and transformative move, the Himachal Pradesh Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has stepped up efforts to ensure a brighter future for orphan children across the State. By facilitating their admission into reputed educational institutions, the State is not only providing access to quality education but also restoring dignity and hope to children who have lost parental care.

A government spokesperson confirmed today that multiple orphan children have already been admitted into some of the most prestigious schools in the State. This initiative, personally monitored by the Chief Minister, is part of a broader policy to integrate orphan children into mainstream society and equip them with the tools to lead successful, independent lives.

Currently, four orphan children are studying at Pinegrove Public School, Solan, three at Tara Hall, Shimla, and eight at Dayanand Public School, Shimla. The government is actively negotiating with other top institutions to increase the number of such admissions, ensuring equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their circumstances.

“This initiative guarantees that orphan children are no longer left behind,” said the spokesperson. “They are being empowered to compete with their peers on equal footing.”

In addition to school admissions, the government is also providing financial assistance for higher education and job-oriented courses, helping these children become economically self-reliant.

Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashrya Yojana: A Visionary Policy for Orphans

Central to this transformation is the ‘Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashrya Yojana’, a flagship scheme launched by CM Sukhu to ensure comprehensive care, education, and empowerment of orphan children. After taking office, the government made an unprecedented move by declaring all orphan children as “Children of the State”, taking full responsibility for their care, protection, and education up to the age of 27 years.

Key provisions of the scheme include:

  • Reservation of one seat per course for orphan children in all government, government-aided, and private technical education institutions — including ITIs, polytechnics, engineering and pharmacy colleges.
  • Exposure visits to historic places and major cities across the country. These trips include air travel, accommodation in 3-star hotels, and complete travel logistics — all fully funded by the State Government.

Himachal Sets National Benchmark

The Government of Himachal Pradesh has also taken the pioneering step of becoming the first state in India to pass a dedicated law for the welfare of orphan children, institutionalizing their right to dignified living, holistic education, and future-readiness.

“This is not merely a welfare initiative; it is a humanitarian revolution,” added the spokesperson. “The Chief Minister’s resolve is to ensure that every orphan child in Himachal Pradesh grows up with dignity, opportunity, and hope.”

Through these sweeping reforms and personal interventions, the Sukhu-led government is not just providing shelter — it is securing the future of Himachal’s most vulnerable children, making the State a model for compassionate governance across India.
