Missile Strike Hits U.S. Embassy in Baghdad as Middle East Tensions Escalate.

Baghdad / Tehran / Washington:

A missile strike has hit the United States embassy compound in Baghdad, sending flames and thick smoke into the sky and further intensifying tensions across the Middle East. Video circulating online shows a section of the diplomatic complex engulfed in fire shortly after the impact, though the extent of casualties or structural damage has not yet been officially confirmed.

The embassy, located within Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, has long been a focal point during periods of regional escalation. Security sources said emergency crews were quickly deployed to the scene while alarms sounded across the area.

The incident comes amid rapidly rising tensions between the United States and Iran following new claims from U.S. President Donald Trump that American forces had struck key Iranian energy facilities.

In a statement released earlier, Trump said that “every military target” on Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal in the northern Persian Gulf, had been “totally obliterated.” Kharg Island lies roughly 22 miles (35 km) off Iran’s southern coast and serves as a critical hub for the country’s oil exports.

Despite the claim, there have been no independent reports confirming significant damage to the island’s oil infrastructure. Satellite imagery and regional monitoring groups have so far not verified major destruction to export facilities.

Iranian authorities have responded with sharp warnings. Officials in Tehran said any attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure would trigger severe retaliation.

“Iran will not hesitate to respond,” a senior Iranian official said, warning that oil and energy infrastructure belonging to companies cooperating with the United States could be “turned into a pile of ashes” if Iranian facilities are targeted.

Regional Violence Intensifies

The strike in Baghdad comes as violence spreads across multiple fronts in the region.

Residents in Tehran told reporters that the Iranian capital experienced heavy bombardment overnight. Witnesses described loud explosions and anti-aircraft fire as tensions with Israel continued to escalate.

“We heard several powerful blasts. The city was hit hard,” one resident said, describing a night of fear and uncertainty.

At the same time, violence has intensified in neighboring Lebanon. Lebanese health officials reported that at least 12 medical staff members were killed in an Israeli strike that hit a medical facility during overnight operations.

Israel has not yet released full details about the attack but has repeatedly stated that it is targeting militant infrastructure linked to Iranian-backed groups in the region.

Risk of Wider Conflict

The developments have raised concerns among international observers that the region may be moving toward a broader conflict involving multiple countries.

Kharg Island is particularly sensitive because it handles a large portion of Iran’s oil exports. Any sustained disruption there could have major implications for global energy markets.

Diplomatic efforts are now underway as several countries call for restraint and de-escalation to prevent further attacks on civilian areas and critical infrastructure.

Security analysts warn that the missile strike on the U.S. embassy compound could mark a dangerous turning point if retaliation follows.

As of now, U.S. officials have not confirmed who carried out the attack in Baghdad, but investigations are ongoing.

The situation across the Middle East remains highly volatile, with fears that additional strikes and counterstrikes could occur in the coming days.
