Shimla:

Significant financial support has been sanctioned for developmental works in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district, with Rs. 80 lakh approved under the Member of Parliament fund by Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut. In addition, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has approved a major allocation of Rs. 250 crore aimed at accelerating development in the region.

The announcement was shared by former MLA and BJP State Executive Member Ravi Thakur, who expressed gratitude to the MP and the central leadership for prioritizing the district’s growth. He also revealed that further financial assistance is expected from the Centre for the development of 12 gompas (Buddhist monasteries). The demand for this funding was recently raised during his visit to New Delhi, and approvals are anticipated soon.

Out of the Rs. 80 lakh sanctioned under the MP fund, Rs. 34 lakh has already been released for specific local development projects. These include:

  • Rs. 5 lakh for stage construction at Jispa
  • Rs. 15 lakh for the construction of a Cultural and Social Welfare Sabha Bhawan at Trilokinath
  • Rs. 4 lakh for a Yuvak Mandal Bhawan at Gaushal
  • Rs. 10 lakh for a community hall in Upper Keylong

Ravi Thakur emphasized that these projects will strengthen local infrastructure, promote cultural activities, and provide better community spaces for residents. He noted that such initiatives are crucial for the holistic development of the tribal district, which faces unique geographical and logistical challenges.

The combined funding from parliamentary and central government sources is expected to significantly boost infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage, and improve the quality of life for people in Lahaul-Spiti.
