The 110th birth anniversary of noted leader and cultural visionary Lal Chand Prarthi was observed with reverence  and enthusiasm on April 3, 2026, at the Bhuttico auditorium in Kullu.

The commemorative event was organized by Bhuttico, where Chairman and former Horticulture Minister Satya Prakash Thakur, along with members of the Board of Directors and staff, paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late leader.

Addressing the gathering, Satya Prakash Thakur highlighted the immense contribution of Lal Chand Prarthi, recalling that he became the first Minister of Folk Culture and Cooperation in the Himachal Pradesh government in 1966. He emphasized that Prarthi played a pivotal role in promoting folk traditions, art, and culture across the state.

Describing him as a visionary public servant, Thakur said that Prarthi’s legacy extends beyond Kullu district to the entire state. His efforts in preserving and promoting Himachali folk art, culture, and traditional heritage continue to inspire generations. He also underscored Prarthi’s contributions to the development of Kullu-Manali, including the establishment of institutions such as hospitals, colleges, and tourism infrastructure.

A key highlight of his legacy remains the Lal Chand Prarthi Kala Kendra, one of the largest open-air cultural platforms in Himachal Pradesh. The venue stands today as a symbol of the region’s rich cultural identity and pride.

Speakers at the event also noted Prarthi’s deep respect for traditional Kullu attire and his consistent efforts to preserve indigenous cultural practices. In his memory, Bhuttico annually presents a National Award dedicated to Pahari language, art, culture, and heritage, along with organizing a cultural evening to honor his contributions.

The event was attended by Bhuttico Vice Chairman Mohar Singh, Board members Atma Ram and Indra Devi, Acting Chief General Manager Surti Devi, General Manager Kishan Chand, and several other staff members including Neena Thakur, Kavita Thakur, Veena Devi, Surender, Om Prakash, Roshan Negi, Shashi Thakur, Sushma, Meera Devi, Sunil Thakur, Yashveer Thakur, Gaurav Thakur, Lekh Raj, and Manish Chand Kishore, among others.

The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation to uphold and promote the cultural values and traditions that Lal Chand Prarthi dedicated his life to preserving.
