US Fighter Jet Downed Over Iran; One Crew Member Rescued Amid Escalating Tensions.

Tehran:

A US fighter jet has been shot down over southern Iran, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in the region. According to US media reports, one crew member has been successfully rescued, while the fate of the second remains unknown as search and rescue operations continue.

Earlier, two sources cited by CBS News indicated that a US F-15 aircraft went down in Iran’s Khuzestan province. A recovery mission was immediately launched, involving both aerial and ground support teams. The US military has not yet released an official statement detailing the circumstances of the crash or confirming casualties.

Footage verified by BBC Verify shows what appears to be a US aircraft flying over Khuzestan, accompanied by two helicopters. Iranian state media have claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that their forces shot down the jet. However, independent confirmation of that claim is still pending.

The White House confirmed that Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation. The development is particularly notable given Trump’s recent remarks asserting that Iran was incapable of challenging US air operations over its territory.

This incident represents the first known case of a US fighter jet being downed over Iran during the current conflict, raising concerns about further military escalation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli strikes have severely damaged Iran’s industrial capacity, claiming that up to 70% of the country’s steel production has been destroyed. Netanyahu added that Israel, alongside the United States, would continue its campaign to “crush” Iran’s strategic capabilities.

The situation remains fluid, with heightened tensions across the region and fears of broader military confrontation growing.
