Union Home Minister’s Ladakh Visit Sparks Calls for Trust-Building and Dialogue.

Ahead of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister to on April 30, the Apex Body Leh has urged the central government to take concrete steps toward rebuilding trust and initiating meaningful dialogue with local stakeholders.

During a key meeting held in Leh, followed by a press conference, members of the Apex Body unanimously emphasized the need for “mutual trust building” and “constructive dialogue,” echoing commitments made in the revocation order of activist under the .

The body called on the Home Minister to make significant announcements prior to his visit, including the unconditional withdrawal of cases against 83 individuals who were arrested following the incidents of September 24. According to the members, many of those detained were innocent, including individuals affiliated with religious organizations who had reportedly intervened to prevent violence.

In addition, the Apex Body demanded compensation for families affected by the alleged police action during the incidents. They claimed that four people lost their lives and around 80 others suffered serious injuries due to indiscriminate firing carried out without proper authorization.

The members also appealed for the convening of a meeting of the proposed High Powered Committee during the Home Minister’s two-day visit. The committee is expected to include representatives from Apex Body Leh and the , with the Union Home Minister chairing the discussions.

The upcoming visit is being viewed as a crucial opportunity to address long-standing concerns in the region, including governance, representation, and safeguards for Ladakh’s unique cultural and environmental identity. Local leaders expressed hope that the visit would pave the way for constructive engagement between the government and the people of Ladakh.
